June 2014
The studio year is completed...and our recital on June 6 was a great success. Congratulations to Arielle and Grace for their outstanding work this year resulting in their receiving the Outstanding Progress award. Congratulations to Jacqueline and Kayla on their selection as Outstanding Pianists of the Year. Enjoy the two week break. Summer lessons will begin the week of June 30th!
April/May 2014
What happened to April??? As I post this, May is almost over as well...
The studio students were very busy preparing for the WSMTA Musicianship exams and working on repertoire in preparation for our June recital.
Congratulations to Kurt (Level 8), Jacqueline (Level 6), Sasha (Level 5), Arielle (Level 3), Bria (Level 3), and Emily (Level 2). They all scored above 80% on the written theory exam.
Congratulations to Grace (Level 4), Julian (Level 3), Cristian (Level3), and Marc (Level2) who all scored 100% on the written theory exam.
And a special congratulations to Kayla (Level4) who received perfect scores on both the written and sight-reading exams.
Studio average for the written exams was 96% and for the sight-reading exams 89%. Wonderful job!!!

We are proud of Jacqueline's recognition by the Chapter Honors Competition judges with an unranked Honorable Mention award. She will be performing on the Honors Recital on Saturday March 22.
All adjudications and CHC students received positive comments from our adjudicator and judges, and performed wonderfully. My adjudication evaluation (yes, I get feedback on my teaching) is posted in the studio. Feel free to stop in and read it.

The month is flying by! Students are preparing for Chapter Honors Competition and Adjudications in March. I also want to welcome several new students to the studio: Julian, Emily, Camelia, Marc and Cris.

The studio is now closed for the Christmas holiday. Lessons will resume on January 6th. Enjoy this special time with your family and friends. I hope you will make music a part of your gatherings.

It is with sadness that we say goodby to Edward, Elizabeth and Victoria M. We wish them well in their new home and new schools. It was a joy to have them in the studio for the past two years!
Please check your lessons schedule over the next week for any changes in your normal lesson time due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Enjoy this time with family and friends...maybe add a little piano music to the festivities...

We completed the Sonatina Festival on Saturday October 26 in Ellensburg at Central Washington University. WOW! What great performances the four students had: Arielle (Level 1A) received 2nd place; Kayla (Level 2B) received Honorable Mention; Grace (Level 3E) received Honorable Mention and Jacqueline (Level 7A) received 2nd place. Thank you parents for your support and for navigating through the fog!

Welcome back to fall studies! We will be kicking off the A"MAZE"ing Page Challenge to help get back into the practice swing of things. Look for details at your lessons beginning September 17th.
In addition to the start of lessons this month, I will be attending the WSMTA Leadership Weekend in Yakima on Sept. 28-29. I will be speaking on the importance of national certification for music teachers. (Leadership Weekend Wrap-up: I am always impressed by the enthusiasm and professionalism of my WSMTA colleagues! They spend hours outside of their own teaching studios working to improve and strengthen the quality of music teaching in Washington and across the nation. Thank you to WSMTA/MTNA members for all of your efforts on behalf of our students!!)

RCM Development Program May assessment results are in! Congratulations to Hannah L. (Level 6 Practical Exam) for her score of First Class Honors and to Jacob L. (Level 7 Practical Exam) for his score of First Class Honors.
