Beginning Students
The focus for beginning level students is on learning the fundamentals of playing piano: developing correct hand/arm/finger positions; learning note-reading fundamentals and sight-reading simple melodies; understanding basic rhythms and meters; sound production; and beginning to develop the important art of listening.
A number of wonderful age appropriate method book series are available which present musical concepts, technique, theory and performance repertoire in a logical and systematic manner.

Preschoolers
For students ages 3 to 5 years old, the studio is pleased to present a new series designed specifically for one-on-one lessons for the preschool student. WunderKeys Piano For Preschoolers provides a unique blend of music and math which nourishes the intellectual and creative minds of young children. WunderKeys bucks the trend of group music classes for preschoolers. Young children have many opportunities to participate in group activities. This is something different… a one-on-one piano program, that keeps preschoolers excited, motivated, and begging to learn more! WunderKeys lays a strong foundation for the pre-school age beginning pianist. |
Elementary Students
Every student is a unique individual. As a result, the Hollenback Piano Studio uses several different piano methods which effectively build skills in all areas of musicianship for the beginning piano student including fundamentals in reading music, understanding theory, music history, technique and exposure to many styles of repertoire.
Older Beginners, Teen-Age Students and Adults
As with younger students, a comprehensive approach to learning the basic fundamentals of playing the piano is used in the Hollenback Piano Studio. Depending on previous exposure to music making (vocal or instrumental) a number of different resources are available for the beginning middle school, high school, or adult student. Based on the student's interest and goals, repertoire from the classics, jazz, Broadway, and pop genres are used as beginning skills are learned and mastered.
