Studio News
June 2019
Last week of lessons for the studio year is June 10-13. The studio will then be closed so that I may attend the WSMTA Conference. Summer schedule begins July 1!!
Studio recital is June 7th! Looking forward to celebrating all the fabulous work students have done this year!!
Congratulations to Kayla on her Senior Recital on June 1st. She planned the program picking her favorite pieces from the eight years of study in the studio. She said it was a difficult choice but making the program was:
Sonatina in A minor by Russell Jacoby; Sonata in E flat K282 Mvmt. III by Mozart; Beethoven's "Für Elise" (which was why she wanted to learn to play the piano); The Storm by Burgmuller; Chanson by N. Faber; Humming Bird and Soaring from Lyric Preludes by Gillock; Le Chat et le Moucheron by Linn; Jimbo's Lullaby and Le Petit Nègre by Debussy; and Chopin's Nocturne No. 21 Op. Post.. It has been a delight to work with Kayla and I will miss seeing her every week! We wish her all the best on her college journey!!

April 2019
Students are preparing for the Musicianship Program in early May--reviewing and strengthening their mastery of theory concepts. Recital planning is also underway--it's another busy month!!
The MTNA Conference was a jam-packed, high energy, early morning to late night marathon of workshops, recitals, masterclasses and meetings with colleagues. Highlights included presentations by several collegiate chapters--the future of music teaching is in good hands!!; and the NW Division meeting and dinner--teaching and music making in the NW (Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming) is phenomenal! WA had 14 students playing in the MTNA National competition finals!! Each year there seems to be a theme that I gravitate towards. This year I attended several lectures on new/unfamiliar to me composers and repertoire: Florence Price, contemporary Chinese piano repertoire, piano sonatas by women composers, and Scriabin preludes for intermediate level students. So much music--so little time!!
